The Color Matching Guide is a handheld tool to help you pick the right artist paint for a particular subject. It's a fan deck with 36 windowed swatch sheets, each one representing a standard pigment used in artist paints. The middle swatch represents the pure color, while the darker and lighter swatches simulate the addition of black or white to the mix.
To use the Color Matching Guide, hold one of the swatches in front of your subject. You'll be able to compare the swatch to the real color, and then you can flip around the deck to see if there's a closer match on another page. With 180 swatches, there's usually a close match in the deck. If you don't find a perfect match, just note whether the real color is warmer or cooler than the swatch. Use the closest match as your starting point, then add a warm or cool mixing color as needed.
